MY STORY: Star

My Story

This is the story of me and how I came to be.
I was not born…
No… I was not born as the people around you imagine…
I come from far away…
I was born in the darkness…
Not a darkness as you could ever imagine…
but a darkness searing and hungry and suffocating…
It was out of the darkness that I became…
I floated for many lifetimes of people from different worlds…
you humans… so brilliantly ignorant and naïve… so fragile…
your lifetimes are mere moments in the lives of the creatures surrounding you. Above you and below…
I was created of the universe…
the whole of it encoded in my mind…
I fell to your earth millions of centuries ago…
looking for my purpose…
I seek warmth and love and light, though many tell me that I am the light…
I seek to belong…
When I fell to your earth I met a boy…
he was the most beautiful mortal I have ever seen…
so pure… so like me… he told me that I was his star…
he died young of fever and the earth was sheathed in darkness once again….
Until…… until I heard a voice calling to me…
This voice, such a sweet sorrow to hear…
it was him…
calling me…
I closed my mind and I could see all of existence moving before me…
how fragile….
How I could damage them all with a wish…
and I was cleaned…
I protect…
I can bear to cause no more harm….
Lonely Angel… I am sometimes called…
and I wonder if I truly am…
I saw the world stretch for eternity and I will protect it….
My life…
My existence is unbearable….
But I bear it….
Because I believe the world can be saved…
And I still like to hope that I really am a star…
